This was my first experience working with this wood. It's from the North shore of Kona, and was gifted to me by a dear friend. The mix of colors through out the piece come from the finish which i an old recipe passed on to me by a local woodturner.

This sculpture is finished with a Dipped

A traditional Hawaiian method where the sculpture is soaked in a mixture of turpentine and mineral spirits, deeply sealing and infusing the fibers. This finish creates a rich, resinous tone and allows the piece to better hold water.
